If you’ve been looking for a fun game to play as a family that requires a little strategy, look no further than Clue Jr – the case of the missing cake! I mentioned in a different post about spending quality time with the ones you love and this is a perfect way you can do that.

My husband and I enjoy playing Clue Intrigue with our adult friends. My oldest child sees us having fun and wants to join, but there is A LOT of strategies involved. I know he wouldn’t be able to keep up. He recently received Clue Jr as a gift so we all were excited to sit down and enjoy this game as a family.

This game did not disappoint– I knew I had to share it with you all.

What is Clue Jr – The Case of the Missing Cake?

Like all Clue games, the object is to solve a mystery. Instead of solving a murder case- like the old-fashion Clue game– you are wanting to find out:

  • Who ate the cake?
  • With what drink did they use to wash it down?
  • What time did they eat it?

There is no one character each player is matched up with. Instead, everyone moves whichever player they want whenever it’s there turn. You hunt for clues under each character and furniture in different rooms- and mark them off as you go. Once you think you’ve solved the missing cake mystery you can take a guess at what you think it is and check to see if you’ve won.

What Does My Family Think of Clue Jr – The Case of the Missing Cake?

My son (7 yrs old) picked up on the concept right away. He still has some strategies to figure out, but the overall concept of keeping his clues a secret is so fun to him. My daughter (5 yrs old) sort of got the hang of it, but still has a lot to learn. She’s just happy when it’s her turn. She also likes the idea of keeping what she knows a secret but doesn’t do a very good job of not spilling the beans. It makes for a good laugh (and helps the game move along quicker).

My husband is a fan of the Clue games so he enjoyed this one too. He does not like games of chance. There is a lot of “chance” in this game but there is still plenty of strategies so he stayed enthused the whole time.

The next day after playing the first time, I probably got asked at least 10 times to play again between our two older kids! They seriously LOVED playing so much. Needless to say, we played again the next night too.

A small suggestion:

The game suggests it’s for ages 5 years and up. I could see this still being a challenge for a lot of 5-year-olds. My daughter- who is 5 years old- can play along, but she hasn’t picked up on any strategy (or hiding her clue sheet). If you are playing with younger children, it may be a good idea to play in teams- pairing a child with an adult.

Where Can I Find This Game?

Clue Jr – The Case of the Missing Cake is available on Amazon, or nearly anywhere board games are sold.
